Driving Dublin to Fahan, great place to stop inbetween?

Hello all, We are driving from Dublin north to Fahan in Co. Donegal. We would like to stop along the way, but I am having a hard time locating a town/village suggestion other than Carlingford. Have any suggestions? Thank you in advance!!

Is this from a red eye flight? If so Omagh is too far, Cavan might be the maximum stretch.

Belfast then Portrush then Fahan would give more options.

We will be departing from Dublin early afternoon, we have lodging that evening in Fahan.
Thank you for your suggestions, would they fit our day you think?

As a one day run without jet lag then The Omagh route would be an option but you are talking a 4 or 4 1/2 hour drive even if you head over the Belfast and Antrim run, just not enough time for sight seeing.
