Two years ago my husband and I spent time in these areas. We stayed at a lovely B&B in Canterbury called the Thanington Hotel. I would recommend it. We drove from there to Dover, then to Brighton and really enjoyed seeing the Royal Pavilion. We stayed at the Brighton Thistle hotel with a view of the channel and was located by the lanes there, so it was very convenient for walking around the places we wanted to see. We then headed to the Cotswolds, and, because of time, used the motorway, which is considerably faster than driving on A or B roads. Of course we missed all the scenery along the water, which is the downside. But we wanted to spend a lot of time in the villages of the Cotswolds. So, suggestion wise, I would recommend a stop in Brighton and next time we will include Portsmouth too.
