Driving distances in/around tuscany
 

Can someone give me an idea of driving distances between the following places?<BR><BR>Florence - Voltera<BR>Florence - Siena<BR>Siena - Montecino<BR>Montecino - Cortona<BR>Montecino - Assisi<BR>Cortona - Assisi<BR>Assisi - Ovrieto<BR>Assisi - Rome<BR><BR>I am trying to figure out what good day trip combos are based on location/driving distance. I have been looking at maps, but it's hard to tell what are real roads and what aren't!

Have you tried www.viamichelin.com? It seems like a really good site for directions and time, although I don't know how accurate the time needed is. Might be a good place to start!

You have to almost double most calculated times like Euroshell. We drove Todi to Montalcino - 120kms approx. It took 2 1/2 hours, because of switchback roads, buses, towns (and photo opps).<BR>

Someone on this board suggested I use www.viamichelin.com and the times were right on the button. Sometimes we were surprised the trip tip said 50 minutes for 25 miles, but in each instance it was right. It even gave us route numbers for little Italian roads that weren't even on our map. It was very helpful.

If you have a map and it has roads shown on it, then they are all real. I'm not sure I understand your comment about "real roads." A short answer to the driving distances (which I will provide in driving times) is that they will all be 2 hours or less (not considering stops) except for the last two. The Assisi to Orvieto route might be a bit over 2 hours, and Assisi to Rome is more like 3 to 4 hours.

Thanks for the rec. on www.viamichelin.com, it has lots of helpful info.<BR><BR>Wayne - btw, when I said "real roads", I just meant that I wasn't sure of what kinds of roads they were. Like are they the roads you would really be likely to travel on, or would it be better to take other, more major roads. Thanks for your info!
