Driving distance from Rothenburg to Stuttgart airport & Rothenburg hotel ideas

Can anyone advise me of the driving distance from Rothenburg-Stuttgart airport. We are considering Rothenburg for the end of our trip and don't know if it is practical to drive from Rothenburg to make an 11:00 am flight. Also, any hotel ideas for Rothenburg? I've only heard of the Eisenhut. Thank you!

Kimerly, it is 105 miles to the Stuttgart Airport from Rothenburg. Whether you want to chance traffic and weather conditions to make a flight in the morning is a personal issue and depends on how flexible you are.

We had a very pleasant stay at Gasthof Hotel Kloster-Stuble in Rothenburg which we found in Karen Brown. Don't know if it still listed with her but you can check at www.karenbrown.com.

It is practical to drive from Rothenburg to Stuttgart airport if you get up early. We always enjoy staying in a nice town at the end of the trip instead of some airport hotel.

Two nice hotels in Rothenburg:

1. MARKUSTURM HOTEL: This hotel is so quaint it is pictured on the latest Kathy Brown book on Germany. In fact you can buy etchings of the hotel and its location on the wall when in Rothenburg. Less expensive than Eisenhut and very nice rooms. We stayed in the room on the front of the hotel in November and it was all remodeled and nice bath. Great owners and very helpful plus convenient location. Includes breakfast.

2. REICHS KUCHENMEISTER: Another nice place located next to St Jacobs church. We have stayed here about 5 times. Good restaurant even if you do not stay at the hotel. Ask for a room in the old building. Breakfast included. Off site parking available. Once checked in you are close to the town square and easy walk all over town.

Hopes this helps.

I've stayed at the Eisenhut. It's first rate and very well located. While you're there, have dinner at Mittermeier. Excellent food, service, and ambience.

Kimberly -

The drive from Rothenburg to the Stuttgart airport could take a lot longer than you think if there is a problem on the autobahn or even if there is construction. If you are going to do it, I would advise leaving very early just in case.

A very pleasant and reasonable hotel in Rothenburg is the Gasthaus am Siebersturm.

Nice restaurant for Rothenburg is HELL. Yep, the name is correct! It has a gold devil outside and is in an old blacksmith shop near the criminal museum. It is a small place, so reservations are recommended. We were in the lower room and our table was a giant old air pump. Fun to see.
