Driving Calais to Calella de Palafrugell

We are putting the final touches to our itinerary and would like some thoughts on whether the drive from Calais to Calella de Palafrugell (south of Girona) with just a one night stop is feasible.
If so any suggestions on where to make that stopover would be appreciated, we are thinking possibly somewhere around Clermont Ferrand.

We have travelled extensively in France so will just hop on a motorway at Calais early morning and put the foot down, the journey will be mid week at the end of August.

Thanks.

The last time I did this journey (in reverse), we spent most of the day in Barcelona, had time to show the godson round Paris (and more importantly get a decent lunch) and still get home to central London by suppertime, about 27 hours after leaving Barcelona. So it's not a desperately demanding drive.

I'd steer well clear of staying in the Clermont Ferrand/St Etienne area.

If affluent, I'd stay in Lyons and grab a bite at Leon de Lyon. If on a budget, I'd just stay at any Formule 1 or Campanile off a motorway.

If I were going up the new-fangled E11 via Bourges (though personally I consider it a crime to be going anywhere near Lyons and not eat there), I'd divert to Le Puy and stay the night there - but I'm a sucker for pilgrimage routes. Otherwise, Vichy.

Thanks for the help, seems then a one night stop is sufficient. The one thing we don't want to miss is seeing and driving over the Millau Viaduct so will probably choose the E11 route. We have already been to Le Puy in the past but Vichy sounds like a good idea, any hotel recommendations would be welcome.

Thanks again.

We have a place near calella and have travelled there twice a year for 12 years. A beautiful hotel with a view of the Millau bridge from the garden is Chateau de Cressels Millau. Beautiful hotel amazing food small pool in garden a little pricey though. The journey takes 12 hours-ish with no stops so a one night stop is ok but we always do 2 nights and make journey a mini break.
