Driving between Madrid and Seville

Can this be done in one day? Or should I ask "should" this be done in one day? We are renting a car and wanted to go straight to Seville from Madrid but were wondering if we should stop over a night along the way somewhere (e.g., Cordoba?).

I'm a strong proponent of driving all over Europe including Spain - - but this 2.5 hour 358 mile (573 km) trip (by train) is difficult (correction: impossible?)to duplicate by car - - viamichelin.com says 6 hrs 32 minutes (for 533 km).

Maybe just train to Sevilla, and rent the car there when you are ready to put it to best use?

Best wishes,

Rex

I'll have to second rex, unless you'd like to stop and smell the roses along the way. There is a lot of country to see and experience between Madrid and Sevilla.

We drove from Seville to Toledo, stopped in Cordoba for lunch and stayed in a small town, Alicante, I believe, at a Parador. It was very quaint and a good stopping point as it is a long drive w/parts being on the boring side. If you're in a rush, the fast train I believe is 3 hours.

With the train service between Madrid and Seville, it also stops in Cordoba.
Driving only makes sense if you want to combine with Toledo and Almagro.
To: owlwowan, I believe this could have been your stop. Alicante by the coast is too far away.
