Driving & Logistic
We live in Milwaukee area.
We're headed to Munich/Salzburg/Vienne/Prague in May. We'd like help with logistics of driving if anyone has experience. Thanks, Dave holmesaedh at gmail |
How much time do you have for this trip? Do you just want to see these cities - if so train may make much more sense.
Driving makes sense only if you will be driving through the countryside for some days and stopping in smaller towns. In that case you would pick up the car on leaving Munich and drop off when arriving in Prague - which would involve a drop -off charge - which may be significant, depending on the specific rental agency. Also, how many and who is "we"? What are your major interests? |
Since you're only visiting cities I would take the train. It's probably less expensive and is definitely easier. You'll pay for a car rental for the entire trip but only using it for a few hours to get from one location to the next.
I have rented and driven cars in Europe; what type of logistical help are you looking for? |
For routings you could consult the Via Michelin website (www.viamichelin.com). It calculates distances and suggests different routes based on your own imperatives (quickest route, shortest route, discovery route, etc).

Be aware that there are high cross-border drop-off fees. You also need to check that your car can be taken into the Czech Republic.
Adrienne is correct; train travel might be better. |
nytraveler also suggested the train.
