Driving age in Ireland
I thought I read that you must be between 25 & 70 to rent in Ireland. It doesn't apply to us as yet, and the guide book was from 2007, but I'm still wondering if this is true? What about the rest of Europe?

The age limits are set by the rental agencies and their insurance companies. If you are older than 70, you should check with the agency. If you are younger than 25, by a year or so, some agencies allow a wavier, but charge higher fees.

Agree with Robert; I drove in Ireland in 2008 and was 73. No problem with Budget Car Rental. Other companies charge a fee for over 70. No problem in Germany or Portugal last year with Sixt. Richard

I don't hire cars here, so I have had no reason to follow up on the story. |
Thanks so much for the responses. I'll be happy to pass this along to our friends and it will be usful to us in the future years.
