Driving Advice : Budapest to Zurich

I am planning to two week trip in May to Budapest - Austria - Switzerland. I and my wife plan to drive down from Budapest to Zurich. Request feedback on the options available, cost and documentation requirements

You'll need an international driving licence to start. Do a little research into car hire companies (plenty of threads discussing them on Fodors), but one thing to note is the cost of hiring a car in one country and dropping it in another - ie one way hire. This can significantly increase the overall cost of hiring a car, so make sure you factor that into your plans.

Thanks for the info! Also, as compared to travelling by bus/train vis-a-vis to travelling by car, which is advisable?
