Drives in Tuscany

My husband & I will be in Italy in early May and would like to spend 5 or 6 days driving through Tuscany heading south and eventually reaching Rome. We would like to stick to small towns and rural areas where we can sample the wine and avoid large cities as much as possible since we will be spending other time during our vacation visiting big cities. We would like to stay in an agriturismo, or several, depending on the itinerary. There are so many interesting places I can't seem to make up my mind. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We stayed at a farmhouse as a base in Tuscany and drove around from there (not having to haul luggage). see www.tuscany.net for cute farms and castles. I'd rec. stayijng 3 nights in the Chianti region or just N of Siena, then 3 nights s near Montepuliciano. Sigh. Just wonderful!

Oh my, how lucky you are. There are so many good options it is hard to narrow down. You do not mention a price range.
I think I would consider these---with a last nite in Orvieto before Rome.
