Driver/Guide in Italy
 

Family members want to visit Rome, Florence and Venice. She has a bit of trouble walking and we're thinking a driver/guide would be the way to go. How to find someone really good? Any names or suggestions? Thanks!

I'm sure if you do a search here for private driver italy you'll find lots of suggestions, as I've seen lots of threads about that, but a private driver in Venice? Really curious how that would work.

First yes, Ira does pose a very good question.....But if you need a private driver I can suggest people who would know someone. When renting apartments in the past, I've often used Leisure in Rome, who also have a private transfer service. They can organize private drivers for day trips as well, which is quite costly, but a very relaxing, comfortable way to do things; and the drivers speak English. It definitely depends on budget and what exactly you'd like the driver to do though. Sadly in Venice you're probably out of luck, unless you splurge on the usual gondola or water taxi (but the waterbus is cheaper and works just as well!).

To save $$$$, I would get a separarte driver in each town. In Rome, try Stefano at www.romecabs.com/ or Alfredo at www.romashuttle.com. Both do a great job and you'll see glowing reviews on many travel boards for each. They will charge you a daily rate or an hourly rate (often with a four hour minimum). Good Luck!

You might want to cut down on your time in Venice if you're traveling with someone who has trouble walking. (Though, I guess you could ride the vaporettas all day, or take gondola tours.)
