What is the road like to drive from Ravenna to Venice, staying on the coast?

Good morning, Ken
Drove this many years ago from Venice down to Ravenna via Chioggia at that time it was two lane major highway.. really an easy drive, recall it took just over two hours, and also did stop at St. Apollinare in Classe ( a must) not sure if was before Ravenna... Ight check with www.mapquest.com/directions/europe... have used them and they are pretty good, tho you have to have an assistant drive that can read road signs and directions. Rv |
Thanks a lot . Might you also know about driving from Greve to Ravenna? Our thinking is to the point that driving is OK if we stay out of the maajor cities. Also, if we stay in Greve in Chianti, and plan to drive to Florence, any advice on where to actually leave a car on the outside of town, since everyone says that it is unwise to take the car into the city. Thanks.

There are some spots just at the Porta Romana. If not keep going around west and there is some parking along the street. OR, if you can get to the train station there is parking there.

Good morning, The road from Ravenna
runs a short way south and then you enter upon autostrada taking you near Bologna for the A1. From there you enter upon the Autostrada del Sole which is the super autostrada over the mountains, beautiful but simple drive. (drove this with my wife in a following vehicle with two additional couples, she did wonderful) Have not been all the way to Greve, but entered Firenze.. Have entered it from the north and later from the south and beleive the entry from the north on A11 is much easier as long as you have knowledge of the layout of centeral Firenze. From the South and coming up the Firenze Certosa is difficult and almost impossible after dark.. Our hotels in all instances were at the Ponte Vecchio and our parking was next to the Hotel Lungarno on the Borgo S. Jacopo...Taking a car into Firenze is not unwise, it depends on your needs but also parking is not cheap. Might consider returning you car to the Amerigo Vespucci airport and then waking a taxi the last 6 km into Firenze, if you have a longer stay. Richard of LaGrange Park, Il.. |
