Drive or Train
 

My wife and myself are going to Southern Spain (Seville. Granada, Torremelinos and would like to find out if it is better to drive or take trains.

A couple of years ago we flew to Madrid then took the AVE, Spain's fastest train to Cordoba, storing our small bags at the station. We spent a day there, got back on the train and continued to Seville. Our large bags were checked through to Seville. We stayed a couple of nights and picked up a rental car to see Andalusia. We stayed in Tarifa so we could see Gibralter and take a boat over to Morocco for a day. We drove to Granada and stayed in the Alhambra and the posada (expensive but well worth the price)then drove back toward Madrid.

Pat, <BR> <BR>My husband and I took 3 week trip in Europe. My (our) advice. GO BY BUS! You will see sights you can't see on the train and you half a chance at visiting with real people. You'll be together the majority of the time, why not get a chance to meet someone else? <BR> <BR>Have Fun!

Driving is not only easy - it is fun also. Beware of parking problems in major centers though. find out if your hotels have parking spaces and how much they cost. Sometimes they are quite expensive. <BR>Between Seville and Granada if you drive you can decide to stop over in white towns like Ronda and Arcos. They are beautiful. <BR>While in Granada or Seville - it is a lot simpler to take the cab. But between cities I found driving fun, till I had a flat tire. It took me 3 hours before being put on road again. But I took it all in the stride - I still think that driving was worth the pleassure where you can do your own thing.

We drove from Madrid through Cordoba, Granada, Costa del Sol, Ronda and Seville. The only major problem we had (and it was a BIG ONE) was finding the parking garage for our hotel in the middle of the Jewish Quarter. Otherwise, roads are good and we could drive off the beaten path to look for a windmill or cave paintings. Trunk space in mid-size Spanish rentals is pretty skimpy, but our family of 4 did OK with judicias packing.
