Drive from Siena to Pisa

Hi

I wanted to get people's opinions on driving from Siena to Pisa. Is this a good and feasible drive? The other option is to take the train but since I will be renting a car in Florence and driving to Siena, I might as well extend the rental and drop it off in Pisa where I am headed next.

Thanks for any feedback!

Yes, it's true that it's only about a 2 hour drive but there are so many places to visit along the way, you may want to take a whole day.

Sure, why not? But I would take S-68 via Volterra for some of the best landscapes in Tuscany--time permitting.

Guys

Thanks for all your responses. I had some follow-up questions.

How about parking in the Pisa area when we visit the leaning tower etc? Is it easily accessible and how much do they normally cost?

Also, is a visit to Lucca from Pisa pretty easy with the car? We need to be back to Pisa train station in the evening to catch a train to Milan where we stay for the night.

Thanks

Yes a trip from Pisa to Lucca is very easy and IMHO very advisable. Lucca is a very unusual and different type of hill town experience, not to be missed when you are in that area. Siena is wonderful as well. Enjoy and Buon Viaggio

Actually Lucca is not a hill town at all. It is very flat and, I agree, really beautiful.

Agree on Lucca as a good spot to visit. The area around Lucca has some of the tastiest olive oil in Italy, be sure and get some.
