Drive from Shannon to Dingle
Hi,
Any suggestions on where to stop for lunch or sightseeing on drive from Shannon to Dingle ? Thanks for your help. Carolyn |
Tralee? You'll be on the N-21 and it depends on when you leave Shannon. I usually have a decent breakfast at the Shannon Cafeteria (upper level) after the not-so-good airline food. Recently, I declined breakfast on a U.S. Airways flight from Philadelphia because I knew I could get a much better meal there at Shannon airport.
The Cafeteria opens at 07:00. A lot of flights from the U.S. begin arriving around 05:30. If I get a later arrival I just stop at the Heather Tavern on Bridge St. in Newcastlewest (about 35-min from Shannon airport). |
Tralee would be a good place. Adare might also be a good place, though we didn't actually stop in town. But it's a cute little town. It's a bit closer to Shannon than Tralee, so it will depend on how hungry you are.

Thank you. We are leaving today so your suggestions are timely and much appreciated.

If you decide to stop in Newcastlewest park by the Church (on your left as you go west on the N-21). Walk across the N-21 and the bridge (on your right) and continue about 75m - Frank & Cathy Duggan's Heather Tavern is on your left. You can tell by the crowd that it's the most popular place in town to eat.
Cathy's father (about 92 years old) went to school in nearby Monagea with my uncle. He also knew my Grandfather Beware the potatoes! Most meals come with Creamed (Mashed) potatoes, Chips (French fries), and a boiled potato on top. I usually tell the girl (Cathy & Frank have about 5-daughters) to 'hold' the Creamed potatoes and/or the boiled potato. It invariably gets me funny looks. Michael and Joseph Hayes (cobbler and driving school operator) on Maiden St. very close to there are my 2nd cousins. |
