drive from rome to ravello

hi! planning a trip to italy and thought of flying into Rome, renting a car, then driving down to Ravello to stay there for 6 nights, then drive back to Rome where we'd stay for last 3 nites before flying back to US. (flights to Rome are much cheaper) Any idea how long drive would be? is it mostly autostrada we'd be on or crazy winding roads? How long to drive from Rome to Naples? Just so you know, we've been to Italy before so have dealt with the roads....thanks!

we stayed at the hotel garden ravello. Don't see it mentioned often..it's a great place to stay. Just redone..clean..great views and very reasonable..100E? While I love Ravello..6 nights seems a bit long for me. As you know..the roads being so windy..it takes awhile to get anywhere. MaybePositano for a couple of nights.. There are so many great restaurants in that area..by staying in Ravello you will miss many of them. You won't want to drive the 10 miles/45minute ride home. Enjoy your trip

Try www.mappy.com or www.viamichelin.com.

At www.mappy.com, you can enter whether you want "express" (the fastest route, with autostrada tolls) or "without tolls".

Both sites tend to underestimate driving time.

My understanding is that it is a 4-5 hour drive from Rome to Ravello. Mostly autostrada until you get to the Sorrento Penisula then very winding roads. Search this forum for "Amalfi Coast Driving" and you will see dozens of opinions as to the sanity of this drive.

mappy.com suggests a route that gets you to Ravello without driving the Amalfi Coast.
