Drive from Romantic Road to Rhine?

Does anyone who has been to Germany think that it is a good idea to drive from the RR area (Rothenberg) to the Rhine River area - I guess what I am asking is how long would it take and would it be too long of a drive to do in a day? We can not decide between the RR area and the Rhine - so we were wondering if we could do both in about 2.5 days time??
Thanks!

I think that it would be okay to do but you are probably talking a 3 hour drive. The Rhine area is beautiful- can you stay there both days?

Hi Lori!

Rothenburg to the Rhine at Speyer is only 150km or something like one and a half hours by autobahn. Speyer is famous for its massive 11th century romanesque cathedral. It was here that the recent funeral of the wife of former Chancellor Helmut Kohl took place. From Speyer to Mainz with its famous Gutenberg museum is about another hour's drive. Then it's only another half hour to Rüdesheim and the 'romantic' Rhine valley. So you could do all this in a long day.
Harezr

In May of this year we drove from Nordlingen on the romantic road to Assmanshausen (near Rudesheim) one day most via the autobahns. Lots of fast moving cars in one lane and slow moving trucks in the other (2 lanes each direction on the freeway) so the driving was a bit scary for us, but we made it fine and got to the Rhine by mid day after leaving Nordlingen after noon.

I live near Rothenburg o.b. der Tauber (there are several Rothenburg areas in Germany)and Rothenburg itself is a town that really only requires 1 day to see. Please stop and see the scenery it's unlike none you've ever seen. Happy driving!
