Drive from Provence to Paris
 

Hi,<BR><BR>My husband and I are going to have a car, and are going to be somewhere in Provence before we have to fly out of CDG. We will probably drive back to the Paris area the day before we leave, and drop off the car at the airport the next day before flying out. I was hoping somebody would provide a rough estimate of the time needed to drive from Provence to Paris. We haven't decided where we are going to be staying in Provence, so I can't be more precise! <BR><BR>Thanks..

Hi<BR><BR>Fast driving gets you into the Paris area in about 5hrs.<BR><BR>Allow another 1 or 2 or 3 hrs to arrive at your destination in Paris dependant on where and the traffic situation.<BR><BR>As an indication I drove Porte d'Italie to the A1 in 30 mins on 22 December this year, but arriving at 08.00.<BR><BR>I've also taken over 2 hrs for the same journey.<BR><BR>Peter<BR>http://tlp.netfirms.com<BR><BR>

Cheri<BR><BR>Also consider dropping the car off in Provence--in Avignon or Aix, for example, and taking the TGV the speed train right to CDG or Paris? We used the TGV for the first time last year and it is great. American rail travel is pre-historic in comparison.<BR><BR>I drove from Paris to Provence some years ago and it was an arduous trip-though roads are more &quot;auto-route&quot; like now, I believe.<BR><BR>Happy New Year!!

Unless you plan take a few days to do some sightseeing between the Provence and Paris, it is better to take the train, as suggested by Anthony. Otherwise, you will have to put up with Paris traffic after a whole day's driving and the next day struggle out of Paris to drive to the airport.

Cheri, Time permitting if you don't mind taking a little more time to arrive in Paris, the drive could be a leisure one. Hubby and I drove from Cap d-Antibes to Paris with some overnight stops: Valence and Dijon. The drive was most beautiful especially in and out of the Dijon countryside. The trip was well worth it. <BR>As for staying in Provence, I would highly recommend the Luberon area: Bonnieux; Gordes; Cavillion; Apt.<BR>Enjoy!<BR>Francie
