Drive from Paris to Rome?
Need to find an inexpensive way to get from Paris to Rome. Can you drive this distance in one day?

Have you priced a one-way car rental between the two cities? I expect it's pretty high even before you factor in the (high) cost of gas and tolls.

Martha: no, I haven't. We were going to fly but major bucks to do that. Does anyone know if going by train would be cheaper (yes, I know it's a long trip)

Julie, Paris to Rome is 1000 miles which would take 2 long days to do and you would be somewhat exhausted when you got there. You could TGV to Nice or train to Milan and then rent a car or proceed to Rome by train all the way.

See if you can find a plane to Rome that stops at Paris (if one does?). Then you could stay in Paris for however long you like and then fly to Rome all on the same ticket.

Julie, One way, 2nd class Paris-Rome is about $100.00US. Train leaves Gare d'Lyon at 11:12A, change at Lausanne, arrive Rome Termini 23:25P. Go to SCNF.FR for schedules.

Wow! $100 Paris to Rome is cheap. I would have never guessed it was that inexpensive.

Last May I did a sleeper from Paris to Rome. I was on a eurail pass and the extra cost for the sleeper was about $150. I liked it and it saved the time I would be traveling .
I think it is a long way to be in second class particularly inItaly at night.
Ther have been many discusions on here
about sleepers do a search and read the comments of the other users.
I have driven from Rome to Paris at various times ,not all in one trip and it is long, winding, sometimes mountainous and tiresome drive to do all together
