Drive from Bergen to Oslo or Norway in a Nutshell?
We are a family of 5 and for the sake of time (and price) we are wondering if it makes more sense to drive from Bergen to Oslo instead of doing the Norway in a Nutshell tour. We have a reservation at a hotel along the route, so we would break the trip up into two days. Are there sights to see along the way if we don't do the Nutshell tour?

You can definitely drive it... we did it on our own... driving from Oslo to Flam. Spending the night... taking the railway both up and back... then exploring the fjords on the drive to Bergen.
I'd definitely recommend it if you're at all independent travelers. We had a great time and there are lots of little spots (towns, hikes, shops) there were worth exploring on the way. |
Do you have towns you would recommend for stopping? We are definitely the independent type, so I am glad to hear this is manageable.

I'll pull out my maps over the weekend and let you know. Names fail me at the moment!
But, basically, we found that we could just drive and if we saw something interesting, we stopped. It was pretty hard to go too far wrong! |
Thanks, I would appreciate it. I don't even know which route to take!

We drove it - we stopped at Helmsedal on the way. We also stopped at the Bear Park closer to Oslo to break up the trip -
here is a link: http://www.bjorneparken.no/en/ I'll try and find more details - |
