Drive from Amaillou France and Trier Germany

This is another part of my trip plan for mid March.
My wife and I are flying into Brussels, renting a car, driving to Ghent and staying 2 nights. Then driving to Bayeux to tour the D-Day exhibits staying 2 nights, then to Mont Saint-Michel for a day, maybe 2. Then going to Tennessus Castle near Amaillou for 1 night.
My plan then is to drive to Trier Germany, then to Bacharach and St. Goar area, then back to Brussels.
Not sure where we will stay or for how long. We would have 6 days for this part of the trip.
My question here is where would things to see and a good place to stay and spend the night between Amaillou France and Trier Germany?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Troyes is about half way. It has an interesting tools of the old trades museum and one of the large Gothic cathedrals surrounding the Ile de France. We were there a long time ago, but I recall Le Bistroquet as a traditional bistro known for its andouillette. Looking it up on the web, it is unclear if it is open or closed, or if it is under the same management.

Basically you are going to cross France and Belgium, wow.

Reims or Epernay are along the way (where Champagne comes from) Epernay is more country town with a major world industry attached while Reims is an ancient city with a world industry added. Both are good

Auxerre is a fantastically pretty city with lovely buildings

That's a lot of tarmac! And at a usually not-so-pleasant time of year. So good luck with that.

I would agree that Champagne country and Auxerre would make good stops.
