Drive CDG to Normandy or Train it?
We fly into CDG early morning and plan to spend a night in Bayeux and then head back to Paris. We were thinking of taking a train from CDG with our luggage but now we are not sure if renting a car would be better. Maybe rent it from CDG and then drive back to CDG to get on a train into Paris. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What is the purpose of your trip to Normandy? If you want to see Bayeux you can use a train. If you want to see the D Day beaches, cemeteries and memorials - you can;t do that via public transit - you will either have to rent a car or take a tour.
And I believe you would arrive there too late for a tour the first day - and if you take a tour the second day you wouldn;t get back to Paris until night (there is a LOT to see). That said, I don't reco driving a long distance after coming off an overnight flight - most people are just too jet lagged for it to be safe. Must you do this on your arrival or could you do it at another point in the trip. |
You cannot take a train from CDG to Normandy; you must go into Paris to the Gare St.Lazare to get a train to Normandy.

We are flying from Rome into CDG. We want to see all the WWII sites. The cost of renting a car in Caen is about the same as getting it from CDG, so thinking that is best if we decide to drive it. We're thinking that dragging luggage on a train might be too much.

Since you won't have jet lag/travel fatigue, renting at CDG might be easier than taking a train.
