One day in the south of france.. What to do?

I will be arriving for one day in Villefranche. Is it easy to go to Nice or Monte Carlo within the same day? I've also heard that Cap-Ferrat is absolutely beautiful and worth going to see. What about Cannes as well?

This will be for one day in July.

If you have one day, best to go to Nice, as it is very close to Villefranche and there's lots to see and do. Depends on what you want to do. Cap Ferrat is lovely, but mostly private houses, not much to do. Cannes is not that far, but with traffic in July you will spend too much time trying to get there. I would prefer Nice to Cannes anyway.

All but Cannes are close to Villefranche. I would head straight to Nice by bus or train. Read up on what you'd like to see there. My preference would then be to go by bus to St Paul de Vence in the hills. Have a walk around this amazing walled village & have lunch. Take the bus back toward Nice & continue on to Cap Ferrat. Assuming it's not a Monday (when amny museums are closed)I would head to the Ephrussie Villa on Cap Ferrat for a tour of this amazing home & gardens built by the Rothschilds. Head back to Villefranche & have a walk around this charming town. You could do Monte Carlo (the train ride there is spectacular) instead of St Paul de Vence but I really think a visit to one hill towns (if not St Paul you could go to Eze instead which is a bit closer to Villefranche) is mandatory to understand all this beautiful area offers.

I will be arriving on the MV Oosterdam in Monte Carlo on October 20th and only have one day there. What are your recommendations for the best things to see and do there?

afox, if you want to stay in Monaco, there's plenty to see-the Palace, the Cousteau Oceanographic museum, the tropical gardens, the Casino, the port with all the yachts (not the same area where the cruise ship will dock.

If you're interested in venturing outside Monaco, you can get the train to Nice or any of the other towns along the coast.

A good website for viewing sightseeing options is provencebeyond.com
