Drink up in Paris!
 

Naturally, I am talking about tap water. The latest analyses show that the Paris metropolitan area has the purest municipal water in France with a quality rating of 99.93%. The city of Paris itself has a rating of 100% as does the suburban <i>département</i> of Hauts-de-Seine just to the west of Paris (Neuilly, La Défense, etc.).

Meanwhile the Loire region clocks in at 99.85% and Brittany is at 99.81%. There's not too much to worry about in the rest of the country, because the national average is 98%. The lowest ratings can be found in poor rural communities with obsolete water systems.

So skip the wine, skip the overpriced bottled water and just turn on the faucet.

The water at the reservoir level might be clean but many of the water pipes are made of lead. Those in our building were just recently replaced this year and lead is not limited to distribution within buildings.

Drinking bottled water in Paris is still important to many who live in the city.

I won't skip the wine but always drink the tap water in France, in Florida where we live now, not so much!

Are you implying that the water in Paris is contaminated, sarastro? Do you think that the last 100 meters of pipe in an ancient building has an effect on the water? My own building just changed its pipes this year as well, but the technicians told us that there is so much calcite inside the pipes that there has been no exposure to lead for at least 100 years.

Jeez, I just had to change my hot water heater this year for the second time in 20 years and when they took it out it rattled so much from all the calcite inside that it sounded like a box of rocks.

Same in Flint Michigan water disaster - only when some agent was put in municipal water source did that take the calcite come off and expose residents to lead, ruining the whole water supply.

I'm always quite happy with a glass of Chateau Robinet...

I agree that all the calcium carbonate will protect you from ordinary tap water.
I only buy bottled water when I have digestive problems...

Why drink water when the Champagne and white wine is so good.
