Le Puy en Velay & Tarn Gorge Hotels?

I have emailed to both the Auberge Cascade in the Tarn and the Hotel Saint Jaques in Le Puy en Velay twice with no response.
Any sugestions for other hotels in either place?
Thankyou

Hi B,

I have found that you get a better response if you call or fax.

On our recent visit, one restaurant and one hotel emailed us about 30 days after we had sent our last email to them.

We had already visited their towns when they sent the emails.

k,
thanks for your response- I have been in avoidance because of my lack of French and the time change -Canada, but I will try to call.
I am still open to other sugestions tho, as I really have no idea of either of these places - just what I have picked up on this forum.
This is the best place for info.
You people are all so great.

We request all of our reservations by fax.

I can't speak to those particular hotels, but my experience with French hotels in Provence is that they don't like FAXes and don't want to answer them (because it costs them money). I had much better luck with emailing than FAXes.

An aside - i think Le Puy is one of the most underrated towns in France - the two pillars of the pilgrimmage shrine are so unique as is the setting.

I emailed Hotel du Parc in Le Puy en Velay and got a very prompt response;
http://www.hotel-du-parc-le-puy.com

The only reason we didn't book was that the restaurant was closed during the time we would be there.

Bellalinda, we stayed in the Chateau-de-la-Caze when we toured the Gorges du Tarn in 2004. We had a warm welcome, a beautiful room (the bathroom was in the turret you see in the photo), and a very good meal in their dining room.

Here's the link:

www.ila-chateau.com/caze/index.htm

We contacted them through the "reservations" feature on their website. I do recollect that the woman who handled our check-out spoke English.

Sorry I can't help with a hotel in Puy-en-Velay, as we were only there on a day trip in 2005. Good choice of a place to visit, though, as PalenQ pointed out. It is a striking place.

About calling from Canada and your lack of French: I share your discomfort, and I speak enough French to handle that kind of call.

Strongly suggest you call.Even though it's a 6 hour time difference you can make the call in the morning, your time.
Most of these hotels will have someone who speaks English.

I usually call for reservations in France, then FAX them my information. I normally get a return faxed confirmation pretty quickly. I'm one of those people who like to know NOW, so calling works for me. If I'm interested in a chain type hotel, like for the airport, or a Great Western, I just use their website reservations, which are usually very efficient (and you also get immediate confirm).

A very inexpensive way to call is by using 10-10-987 (in my area of So. Fla.) or similar whereever you live. Only 3 cents a minute - you can't beat that! In fact, I got disgusted at AT&T for a recent rate increase and disconnected their long distance service completely. 10-10-987 works perfectly, and now I just do it automatically. I don't know why I'm saying this, as I have quite a bit of AT&T stock, and hope everyone doesn't feel like I do!!
