Dress code for church service at Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle?

My wife and I will be attending Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle the two sundays we will be in Paris. Anyone been there have ideas about the dress code, I imagine it is standard, women with covered shoulders, legs, men in pants, long sleeves, but what have other travellers experienced?

Thanks in advance for the help!

What you describe should be just fine.

Full evening dress.

It's a religious place, not a nightclub, club or bar, they're there to encourage worship not a dress code. Obviously you don't turn up in very little, as you said "pants...sleeves" etc.

Full evening dress it is! ;-) Thanks for the responses, I know it seems common sense, but I always like to be prepared. Thanks again!

Sainte Chapelle is not a parish church, there are no masses held there nor worship, which is one reason why it's open every day, all day. It's just a historic museum/monument now, as far as I know, and I've never heard of even any special event religious services being performed there, although they do have those concerts, of course. What kind of services are you going to at Sainte Chapelle, are they religious? (assuming this is the one that is famous for the stained glass near Palais de Justice). I thought it was kind of dismantled during the Revolution because it was a symbol of royalty, of course, and a lot of the statues and organ were taken elsewhere, and it hasn't been used as a church since then.

There are various chapels called Sainte Chapelle, of course, not just that one, as that name just means holy chapel. There is one in Notre Dame, actually, as I recall.

I was worried about the same thing. We went to mass at Notre Dame, and found that what I would consider normal "church clothes" were fine. I wore dressy pants and a nice sweater; Dad wore a blazer (but no tie). In the summer, I think he would have been fine without the blazer, but it was cool enough in October for jackets and sweaters. It was definitely interesting hearing mass in a different language, but it was amazing how easy it was to follow.

Enjoy your trip!

Anne
