Dress Code
Can anyone tell me what the dress code for restaurants in Mykonos and Santorini is at night for men? Can you wear shorts or are pants required?
|
Jock strap and a sailor's hat are fine.
|
In nicer restaurants, it's more appropriate to wear pants when you go out to dinner. That's true everywhere---even in the tropics, except at the most casual beach bars---but it's definitely the case in Europe, where European mean usually don't wear shorts at all. There's certainly no hard and fast rule, but if you're not in your late teens or early 20s, I'd suggest pants.

If you are planning to go to a very fine restaurant you should ask when you make your reservations. Otherwise, khaki pants and a casual shirt (not a tee shirt) will be fine.
|
Actually Surfer, yours is a common error. Only pink thongs and cowboy hats are allowed in restaurants in greece for dinner.

Seriously, I've found that there is zero difference re: attire between EU and US big cities and EU and US smaller, casual locations. Do whatever you'd do here.
Some people worry about violating the fashion bounderies of others, and some of us go with speedo and an afro wig. |
i like your style.
|
Also, even in the summer the nights on Santorini can be a tiny bit chilly and windy. I'd suggest pants no matter what.

We travel very light, just a day pack each for 3 weeks so I don't have room to carry a variety of clothes. I wear shorts all the time. In my experience on the islands anyway life is very informal and I have never had a taverna refuse to take my money because I show up in shorts. Although it can get cool at night I have never been too cold. On the other hand I am a Canadian and my idea of cold may not conform to the norm.
