we will be visiting italy for the first time this april for 15 days. we plan to eat at moderately priced restaurants. is it acceptable in italy to wear blue jeans, shirt and sweater to a restaurant? or must we wear shall we say business casual clothes to a restaurant, ie. dress slacks, shirt and jacket? thank you for your help, rayb.

Our timing and dining intentions are the same as yours. We will be dressing quite casually. Some jeans and some very casual cotton slacks with mostly mockneck or polo type shirts and pullovers, not t-shirts. Basic colors, blands and blacks. This is also our first visit and we've been advised by veterans to be as comfortable and neat as possible. We won't be packing jackets, dress shirts, ties or the like. If they're required , we'll find equivalent dishes in a less restrictive atmosphere. Besides, our travel partners already have all our restaurants planned and they'll probably be in jeans most of the time.
Just curious, what destinations have you chosen for your first time out?
