Dresden to Bastei Bridge

Hi All
Wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to get to Bastei Bridge from Dresden. We will need to take public transport. I believe there is a train to Rathen and then a ferry across the river. Is it then a matter of hiking all the way up? Someone has mentioned that there is a shuttle bus for part of the way but I can not find any information on this. Maybe from Rathen??? Bus would be helpful for one of our group if weather is not the best.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I have not heard of this bridge before but had to Google it myself - looks absolutely fascinating.

This blog seems to have options from both sides of the border for you to consider: https://blog.northernhikes.com/684/bastei-bridge/

It was published in 2019, and assuming the information mentioned has not changed. But hope it is helpful.

I've cycled past Bastei so not really sure but there were lots of people walking (mainly in my way)

For public transportation schedules see vvo-online.de or bahn.de (both with English versions.) Basically you take an S1 or S2 commuter train from Dresden (several stations, check which one is closest to your hotel) to Pirna, walk 2 or 3 minutes to the central bus terminal (Pirna ZOB) and take a bus (in most cases 237) to Bastei. Pretty often these buses run right to the stop near the bridge (Bastei, Lohmen). Some only pass by and stop at the Park + Ride stop, however, from where you take the shuttle bus. You see it in the schedule, though. You can take the same route back or walk down to Rathen, take the ferry and hop on the S1 train back to Dresden.

Most economical is the day ticket IMO, available for single travellers (adult 18 Euro - two kids younger than 15 included; discounted 15 Euro for seniors 60+ and kids younger than 14), family day ticket 25.70 Euro for two adults and four kids younger than 15, or group ticket 37 Euro for up to five adults. Children that don't go to school yet (usually younger than 6) are free. The ferry in Rathen is always extra, bus and train are included in those tickets. Make sure to buy the ticket in advance from a machine and stamp it upon entering a tram or bus in Dresden or, if you walk to the station, on the platform BEFORE hopping on the train.
