Dresden- tea towel
On our latest trip to Europe we wanted to get a tea towel from Dresden but did not see any in the shops. If they do exist n Dresden we would be willing to send Euros to anyone who could buy one for us and send it to us.
|
If they do exist they are probably made in china now or India or Pakistan.
|
That does not matter - we like to collect a tea towel from each city we visit. For those that do not know, a tea towel is about 18 inches by 24 inches and features landmarks of the city. We were able to get one in Paris but were not able to find one in Dresden.
|
The same offer goes out for Berlin.
|
If Ingo can give me the name and address of a shop in Dresden I can pick it up for you. It would be cheaper to mail from the US.
I do know what a tea towel is! |
You want them in linen?
|
This is a little amusing. We've been in Dresden which likely has Meisen porcelain and I'm sure much else in shops.
But like everywhere so many things are made in China or maybe Malaysia. Many times we are in a gift shop ready to buy a lovely something or other and see "made in China." |
BillT - wish you luck on your quest... we do the same and have them from all over the world... tack them up in the kitchen. Once we run out of space or get tired of them, we take them down and use them as they were intended.
|
I am not aware of tea towels that feature landmarks of Dresden. But I'll check. I am afraid these would only be available in the touristy/souvenir shops, and I'm sure you looked there.
We locals buy them made traditionally (of linen, red-white or blue-white or blue-white) in the nearby Upper Lausitz region. We even gave some to our American friends. When will you be in Dresden, adrienne? |
|
Understand now. A tea towel with Dresden on it not made there. I have Harrod tea towels.

<< When will you be in Dresden, adrienne? >>
Beginning of September. I have to finalize my itinerary and then post for critique. I've been putting it off as it's tedious work! |
Yes linen would be nice, most of our towels from around the world are linen but what ever fabric they have will do. We did look in a few shops but not many so maybe you will see one. If you or Ingo can find one that depicts some of the Dresden sights we will certainly cover cost and shipping.
Thanks in advance for any help! |
eBay has at least one of Berlin - description says "vintage" so perhaps it's even made in Germany:

Doesn't Ampelmann have tea towels? The traffic light figures are surely very typical and iconic for the eastern part of Germany.
|
So sorry but I didn't see tea towels in any of the souvenir shops. They seem to have lots of other things though.
