Dresden post flooding
Am thinking about going to Dresden late October and was wondering if anyone knows if the Zwinger or Semper Oper is open or will be open by then? Thanks a lot.

I am afraid I can not find news of the Zwinger Gallery. You could e-mail the question to [email protected]<BR><BR>Otherwise the City web site http://www.dresden.de/index.html?pag.../05/c_015.html says in German that the Semperoper is likely to stay closed for several months. The City Operetta has My Fair Lady, the Dresden Philharmonic Society opened its season on 30 August, The City Theatre is playing. The Factory Theatre re-opens on 13 October. The Petite Comedie and the cabarets are open: the Young Generation theatre and the Puppet Theatre re playing in temporary houses . The City Museum has an exhibition on the recent floods.<BR><BR>Welcome to Europe. <BR><BR>Ben Haines, London<BR>

I just got an email from a friend in Dresden. She says that things are finally almost back to normal but some streets remain closed because of huge holes. The Muglitz-valley area near there was hit worse because of the flooding of a river.

The old masters picture gallery is still closed and so is the armor collection. You can visit the Zwinger yard.<BR><BR>The Semper Opera is open for guided tours. The technical installations were afflicted, so there won't be performances until the end of this year.<BR><BR>All the other museums are open.<BR><BR>Welcome to Dresden<BR><BR>Ingo

Thanks a lot for the informative replies. I think I'll hold off on my trip and visit Dresden in the new year when I can go to the Opera and visit the old masters again.
