I'm back from my trip. I'll post my report soon.
I made it to the Green Vault. I had to take a 5:42 am train from Berlin-Lichtenberg. Because the train was delayed, I arrived around 8:30, and there were more than 50 in line already.
But visiting the Green Vault was an amazing experience. This should not be missed and is well worth the effort. To my surprise I still got a 10-10:15 slot even though I arrived so late. I think 200 tickets go on sale each day. If you can't get reservations, make sure you get there early. The Germans are serious about their museums.
Thanks again, Ingo, for your tip regarding the Neustadt station. I took a cab both ways and didn't bother with the tram.

Glad you made it! Also looking forward to your trip report. Dresden is up there on my "must see" list for the next 12 months. I might try to go in late Feb. before heading to Vienna, so will book a ticket just in case.
