Anyone know how compact this pillow can get to put in a carry-on bag? Since it's down, does it compress a lot? 12x15 is pretty big otherwise.

Travelnut Feb 15th, 2006 01:03 PM

You don't really have to put it IN a carryon, just 'carry it on'... it isn't counted as a bag. I sewed a velcro 'loop' onto the cover of my little travel pillow, and I just attach it to the carryon bag so I don't have to hang on to it.

The one I lost was a similar size and compacted well. I could roll/fold it to the size of a loafer. I could also pack it flat in one layer in my 22-inch suitcase, flattening to the thickness of a T-shirt.

For me, I'd skip bringing one more shirt and pack my pillow--I'd have a much better chance of sleeping in an unfamiliar bed with the familar feel of down under my head.

Ellen-
I'm with you. A good pillow is very important.
When I traveled around the world I carried a microfiber travel pillow that compacted to the size (and shape!)of a football. This was great especially in cheap hostels and in Asia where most of the pillows were like rocks.

Just be aware that many hotel pillows in Europe are Euro size, meaning they are more square than rectangular.

Or a round bolster in France. That's why I have always packed my own pillowcases - to cover existing pillows with high thread count soft ones from home - or to create a pillow by stuffing pillowcase with clothes from suitcase to make my own. Needless to say, I like pillows! :-)

I just placed my order - great deal, thanks!

BettyBoop Feb 15th, 2006 06:14 PM

You should get a commission. I just ordered one. I love pillows.

Thank you, hope that's commission enough.

I have just squished my pillow up and rolled it, and it was a cylinder about 9 inches long and 3.5 inches in diameter. About the size of a sneaker, I guess.

I just got mine yesterday, and although I am not usually a fan of down pillows (they squish out to the side and have no support in the middle), I have to say these covers ARE fantastic! Folded up, it doesn't have as far to squish, so it stays plump, and as cover it totally disguised my fiberfill pillow that became really lumpy when I washed it. Two thumbs up! ((Y))

The pillow sounds wonderful, since I am EXTREMELY weight conscious in my packing can someone tell me what it weighs please? Thanks Barb

noe847 Feb 21st, 2006 09:47 AM

10 ounces on my kitchen scale.

Charuddy Feb 21st, 2006 10:13 AM

Mine just arrived as well as two I purchased for gifts. They are awsome! Thanks for the tip.

Ok--another satisfied customer! Of course like the addict I am, I ordered the travel pillow based on this forum and it came today. I got the taupe/tan colored one...it is soft, and squishy and since I ordered a window seat on my next transatlantic flight, I can see myself propping it up by the window and relaxing. I think this is a winner! Anything else you guys/gals recommend I buy?

Anyone have a transferable promo code for Restoration Hardware orders?

starrsville Feb 21st, 2006 02:43 PM

I bought one for me and several for Christmas presents - for the hard to buy for nieces and nephews. Blue for the girls and tan for the boys.

The other thing I travel with are little travel candles. I like the ones in metal tins. I buy them everywhere I see them. I have a stash from SteinMart right now. Found a yummy scent at a Ritz Carlton gift shop, but didn't need one - and won't for a while.

Travel candle and high thread count pillowcase and I'm set for a good night's sleep!

That pillow looks wonderful. I must order one! Does anyone carry a small travel size linen spray with them? I use a lavender scent when I travel for business. It makes every room smell like home. Travel is wonderful for the new experiences but when it comes time to sleep, I want to really sleep. Linen spray helps. (Just don't ever use it on the plane!!! That is an entirely different thread.)

kelliebellie Feb 21st, 2006 05:22 PM

Boo hoo. I'm allergic to down!

BettyBoop Feb 21st, 2006 06:00 PM

My pillow arrived today can't wait to use it March 22 off to Paris. Thanks for the reminder about candles. Need to go to Tuesday Morning.

Renovation Hardware needs to give dina a commission!

For those with small feet, the foot duvets are WONDERFUL! Toasty warm. Nice gifts. The larger sizes sold out before Christmas.
