Down to a few hotel choices in Rome

Please help me decide between: Farnese, Genio, Santa Maria, and Casa di Santa Brigida. I have taken your advice and changed from staying in the Vatican area. I am 50, female, traveling alone for four days in Rome in Nov. Thanks for input.

Are those hotels or convents? Do you want to stay in a convent?

only one is a convent - St. Brigid. I would not mind that based on the reviews I read. The others are conventional hotels.

If you mean Residenza Farnese then that would be my choice. I also like Albergo Cesari and San Carlo for a single female.

I don't know the convent, but I would stay (have not stayed personally, so please keep that in mind) at any of the others--all have good locations. You might prefer the Genio or Farnese if this is a first visit. Are the prices all similar?

Have a great trip! I will be be in Rome in December with my mom--we love the Eternal City and I hope you do too.

If you don't mind convents, Fraterna Domus (about 55€ for a single) is one of the most convenient (close to Piazza Navona) and has private bath.

We stayed at Hotel Genio on our 2003 trip to Rome. It is very close to the Piazza Navonna which was what I wanted. There is an inexpensive "hole in the wall" type retaurant right on the corner, just a few feet away that was great and inexpensive. We stayed there when we arrived in Rome and the night before we flew out. The 1st room was a bit smokey, but not the 2nd. Also, a great buffet breakfast.

The Santa Maria might be in an area that you would find very young; sort of like the party area of Rome. As a female in her 50s, I don't think I would like it there on my own.

I have nothing against young people, and wish I was one myself, but that area is crowded with young folks out for a good time.

I stayed around the corner from the Genio at Res. Canali. The area is well lit and right on the main area near P. Navona. It is a nice safe area at night.

I like the little restaurant connected to Genio too, good pizza and soups. Not gourmet but locals stop in every evening, I ate there a few times after some tiring days.

Thank you all. I booked the San Carlo. FYI, cheapest rate I found was via Expedia.
