Great news... I booked my trip to Germany in January with no idea what the exchange rate would do. When it reached $1.60 to 1EUR, I thought this was going to be ridicously expensive. I am so glad to see it level out some. Still not great but better than $1.60 a few weeks ago. Just hoping that things don't revert back anytime soon.

We are leaving for France & Belgium next week. Was budgeting for €1 = $1.6, so everything is now 10% cheaper!

We're heading to the UK next April, so it would be nice if this keeps up! Maybe I should try to prepay a few hotels as a hedge? No, my luck, it would go down even further!

I remember a couple of posters last May who asked if they should buy € then to hedge for their trips in Sept/Oct. Our dear friend logos assured them the $ would be in the tank by now so they definitely would be ahead buying back then.

If they did buy, they are probably down 15%-20% or more because of fees etc.

I SURE hope they ignored him and listened to the rest of us ;)

Well I was in Ireland and France early August. I was going to take a few hundred euro from the ATM on my way back home to the States so that I would have some euro for my trip to Portugal next spring. I didn't do that. The euro was at 1.58 at that time. I am glad that I didn't. In the past, it did work out for me to withdraw a few hundred for my next trip. Anyway, this is great news and I hope the dollar either strengthens or at the very least maintains the current exchange rate.
Hi Janis, how are you? Its been a long time! Hope that you have been behaving yourself.

Our hotel in Venice and our apartment in Rome both asked for cash on arrival. At first I was annoyed because it's such a hassle to get a large amount of euro's on arrival, but now I'm really glad we didn't pay ahead by credit card! (We'll be there in late October.)

After my last trip to Europe, I brought 250 unspent euros and 25 unspent pounds home with me. I think I bought them for $1.60 per euro and $2.00 pound.

Oh, well. It's only money. I'm amazed at how much difference even a small change in the ratio of euro to dollar makes, when you are spending three or four weeks in Europe.

Yippee! Leaving for France in 2 weeks. Sure beats what the exchange was in May 2008 when I was last in Paris.

Just hope it keeps going down. We leave in less than 3 weeks. What a welcome gift to get a 10% reduction - hope it gets down another 10% before our trip is over. Can always dream!

I was expecting the dollar to fall below .5 euros to book another trip to USA, but it seems I have to postpone for better days :-(

It's just a shame the US can't introduce better regulatory systems so that the rest of the planet doesn't have to suffer because of the sort of bad management that lead to the "sub-prime" debacle.

And of course those responsible walked away scott free (and possibly quite rich).

I'm not holding my breath. Seems the current election is (as usual) about those terriby important things - guns and babies and god.

Will it ever change?

This is fantastic as I leave for Europe in 19 days. I hope it keeps on dropping.

Jump up and down. Right now, just jump up and down. It will enable you to change the frame of mind within which you exist, at least for a moment you will see what it is like to be less of a cranky, grumpy curmudgeon.
