Double, Triple Room - meaning
 

Quick question:

When the price for a room ( say double) is listed, does it mean : per person per night, double occupancy, or per room per night double occupancy?
I'm a bit puzzled!

Same question - for 7 day rentals - does the price mean : cost of room/flat for 7 days,
cost per day for 7 days or even cost per person per day for 7 days?

Anyone??

When a rate is quoted as "per person", it will almost always say that in some explicit way, in my experience... though it just MIGHT be assumed, in Ireland.

And a seven day rental would usually be quoted as the full total for the 7 days, regardless of the number of occupants.

Have you seen some rates that seem suspiciously too low, unless interpreted otherwise, like this?

I imagine it varies by country and hotel. I suppose some countries may have particular customs that make it likely one way, but I have never seen a hotel rate listed as "per person" in a double room (or triple, of course). Tours and packages usually do that to make it look cheaper or just to be able to quote a package price per person.

In any case, you have to ask, but the rates should make it somewhat clear, based on the level of the hotel. I would certainly hope any hotel quoting double room rates per person would state that specifically.

I've never seen a place that was only rented by the week, so can't say, but I really wouldn't think that would be per person. IN any case, there is no rule across all of Europe for all hotels, so you'll need to inquire at a place.

We are planning to spend a week in Sardinia in September. I am finding prices for a flat ( apartment with kitchen) for 400-600. I am having hard time interpreting if that is too much (if it is per day) or quite nice ( for whole 7 days). No "per person" items.

Unless it is a "huge" apartment (4 br or more), I would be willing to guess that 400-600 (euro, I assume) - - is the full price for the apartment for the week.

Of course, there could be cleaning, and "extras" (phone, heat, etc).

Usually the rate is for the room. Except on organized tour packages where there is often that 'double occupancy' or per person clause.

If you aren't sure if an apartment rate is for one night or the entire week, that's a question you need to ask who ever you are booking with.

600 euro per night for a week's rental of an apartment -- total of 4200 euro would have to be one HELLUVA apartment, especially in Sardinia in September!
It must mean per week, but I sure wouldn't book anything until I fully understood the terms of the rental -- including extra fees for cleaning, etc.

Never hurts to ask the hotel itself, though.
