Dordogne to Normandie~overnight suggestions

Next April I'll be visiting France. We'll be spending a week in the Dordogne, then going to Normandie for several days before a couple days in Paris. Does anyone have suggestions for a good overnight stop? Someplace where we could spend the afternoon after the drive from the Dordogne. The next morning we'll be heading to Mont St Michel, then Bayeux. Thanks for your help...

Angers might be a good place to stop. the beginning photographs of the following are from Angers and the B&B where we stayed:

My trip report might help. At the end it includes a reference to our Angers stay:

Thanks for the reply Michael. I see in your trip report that you weren't overly impressed with Vitre. I was considering it as a stop, but it sounds like Angers might be better? I like the sounds of the tapestries. I'll do some research on it.

Any other suggestions?

Vitré is worth a stop for lunch, but the interior of the chateau is not particularly interesting. Part of it is taken up by city offices. It looks better from the outside as an ensemble. The old town is pleasant.

Sancerre would be about right, Hotel Panoramic has the best view (obviously) and a good restaurant.

For the afternoon try wine tasting but down on the valley botton not on the hill

I would try to get as close to Mt St Michel as possible so you can get there before 9am - which is when the vendors start to haul out the postcard stands & souvenir displays (with toothbrushes, cereal bowls, & hair bands with every child's name on them, etc) and obscure the beautiful architecture of the village, and also before the hoards of day-trippers arrive.

Try Fougeres instead of Vitre.

Thanks for the suggestion, Stu. I'll research Fourgeres. I hate to 'waste' an entire day in driving, but would like to get close to Mont St Michel for the next morning.
