Dordogne and Basque Country
My wife and I will be spending 5 days in dordogne and then go on to st jean de Luz then toward Bilbao and then hiking in the pyrenees total of 18 days
We are looking to stay in one central location in dordogne and one location in the Pyrenees each with full kitchens. We will stay in hotels on the coast. Any help would be appreciated! |
In the Dordogne, look for any place within about 30 kilometers to the north, south, or west of Sarlat.
|
We stayed at Villa Des Consuls in Sarlat in an apartment with a full kitchen.

I would reduce the radius from Sarlat to 15km at lest to the north. Montignac, beyond the Sarlat orbit, is only 26km. away.

Thanks, seems like Sarlat would be a good central location?

Yes, of course, it's the market hub town of the region, so totally central. The issue is what time of year you are going and whether, if in high season, you're willing to spend a chunk of each day driving in and out and looking for parking (if your hotel doesn't have it).

Depending on when you're going, you might enjoy one of the apartments at Les Granges Hautes. During peak season they have a minimum one-week policy, but only require three days at other times. We really enjoyed our stay there last year and found it very conveniently located for visiting the area. If you click on my name, you can find my trip report with more details about this apartment.
