Doolin to Dingle

I'll be making the drive from Doolin to Dingle using the Shannon Ferry. Are there any places you recommend on the way to stop? Sites to see? (Besides the Cliffs of Moher) Lunch? Shopping?
Thanks!

Stop by Lahinch for shopping/lunch. Head to Kilkee and take the scenic drive out of town, stopping by the Bridges of Ross, the loop back to Kilrush/Killimer to catch the ferry. Take the Connor Pass into Dingle. ((b))

Oh, I see you are going in February and won't have enough daylight to do all those things. I would think you would want to drive the Connor Pass in and get into Dingle before dark. ((b))

Budman,
So with the short daylight hours, do you think we should just "get there"?

How long do you think the drive is?
If the Connor Pass is foggy, should I go through Annascaul?

"If the Connor Pass is foggy..."

Don't go near it. I drove it in visibility so bad that if we had met anyone on the narrow bits I wouldn't have been able to see to reverse. Fortunately every one coming the other way had had more sense (it looked clear going up our side) so we met nothing.

Driving time from Doolin to the ferry is about 2 hours, give/take 10-15 minutes. You could stop off for an hour in Lahinch for shopping since it is on the way. An hour or so would be sufficient.

Since the ferry departs on the hour, I would plan to get there about 1/2 hour before just to queue up. There's a little shop where you could grab a cup of coffee/tea and/or sandwich while you wait for the ferry.

It's another 3.5 hours from Tarbert to Dingle. Can't predict fog and you probably won't know until you get there, then it's too late to turn around and go around.

I wouldn't worry about the fog -- you just won't get the views.

Here's a site to give you drive times. I would add a few minutes to their estimates. http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/routes/((b))

zaneyjaney, I love the drive through Annascaul. Some of the greenest fields. We made the drive up to Conner Pass another day of our trip. Oh, to be in Dingle! Have a wonderful trip. Joan
