Doolin B&B
 

My wife and I are planning a trip to Ireland in May for two weeks. We fly into Shannon and will be picking up a car, then driving to Doolin and staying there for two nights.

Has anyone stayed at the following B&B's recently, which one would you recommend?
We are looking for somewhere nice and close enough to walk to the pubs.

Sea View House,
Doonmacfelim
Churchfiled
Horseshoe House
Ballyvara House

While I can't help you with regard to the accommodations in question, I can say - indeed, stress - that you make a special point of dining at a couple Doolin eateries: The Lazy Lobster and Bruach na hAille. Both are quite fine and have been part of the Doolin dining scene for a good many years.

Thanks for the tip. I have heard the seafood is great on the West of Ireland, The Lazy Lobster sounds good.

We had our first dinner in Ireland was at the Lazy Lobster. I would highly recommend it.

Across the main street there was a pub with music. Don't remember the name of it, but had a great time. It was away from the "downtown" area.

We arrived in Shannon in the morning, drove up north towards Galway, and headed west toward Ballyvaughan. Had lunch at Monk's Pub (great place to stop), and headed around the coast to Doolin. Just a suggestion instead of heading directly toward Doolin. ((b))

Both Sea View and Churchfield are within walking distance to pubs. Both get good reviews, with Sea View being more upscale and Churchfield plainer and simpler. I'm not familiar with the locations of the other B&Bs on your list.

Seaview is a very popular B&B and if you are staying there on a weekend, I would make reservations right now. We stayed at Doonmacfelim, and it was fine. Not luxurious, but comfortable and again within walking distance to Gus O'Connors. The other pubs are a little further in the opposite direction and as long as it's not pouring down rain (as it was when we were there in November) within walking distance also.

If Seaview is the one that sits slightly up on a hill in the small, quaint, downtown area, we wished we had stayed there. We enjoyed O'Connors pub, great music! Also, the Cliffs of Moher are but 10-15 min away.

Seaview is the house on the hill overlooking the downtown area. We stayed there last May and can highly recommend it.
Darra the owner is a great hostess. It was only 1 minute walk to O'Connors pub, who do a great Guinness stew.
O'connors also do some seafood but I did not try it.


Horseshoe House is also close to O'Connors pub.
Not sure about Ballyavara, I think it is about a mile from Doolin.

Another good review for Seaview! If you call and make reservations ask for one of the rooms in the front with a view. Also there is a great band called the Ceili Bandits(Celtic Bandits) that play every night in Doolin. Darra pointed us in their direction and they put on a great show.
The most beautiful sunset I have ever seen was in Doolin...if its a clear day set aside the time to watch it!
