Don't post anything TOO interesting - Hurricane's comin' !

We who live in Florida might have to go 'offline' for a while due to pesky Category 4 hurricane... Can you guys just post about 'which shoes to take' and 'what's the best way from the airport' for he next 24 hours or so? I don't want to miss anything really good! Thanks ;)

cigalechanta Aug 13th, 2004 10:41 AM

Ok, travelnut :)

Now I've heard everything, Travelnut! I'd be so scared, not even Fodors would distract me. I think you should get the "Most Dedicated" award for the year. But honestly, I hope it's not nearly as bad as they've been predicting and you and yours are all safe and sound. Hurry back!

Judy Aug 13th, 2004 10:54 AM

I hope you ARE back on line in 24 hours! We experienced Isabel last year and were without power for 4 days.

SeaUrchin Aug 13th, 2004 10:54 AM

Travelnut, which shoes should you wear while waiting for a hurricane?

I think this one time you will be allowed to wear white "running" shoes!

Be safe and plane to move to California where we only have earthquakes!! You too, Scarlett!

mamc Aug 13th, 2004 10:57 AM

Hunker down and plan a trip in your head! Tell us all about it whan you are back on line. And stay safe!!

tudorprincess Aug 13th, 2004 11:41 AM

Hi Travelnut, I just talked to my family in Lakeland and they are all battened down for the winds and rain. Hope everything goes well for you.

Travelnut Aug 13th, 2004 11:46 AM

I'm in Jacksonville, so we aren't getting the brunt of it... plenty of wind, rain and tornedos to go around, I'm afraid...supposed to reach us early in the morning...got my candles, got my water, got my hubby, got my dog...it will be fine. We're still at work right now, but being sent home a bit early...
Ciao...

Statia Aug 13th, 2004 11:50 AM

Travelnut, that would be one of my concerns, too! All the threads I'll have to go thru when the power comes back on! :)

Stay safe and check in when you can. We'll try to be really boring while you're gone.

StCirq Aug 13th, 2004 11:51 AM

My kids are supposed to fly from DC to Miami tomorrow - this is not looking good! In the meantime, I'll try to be very, very dull for all the Floridians who may be offline - that shouldn't be too hard, eh?:)

maitaitom Aug 13th, 2004 11:54 AM

"move to California where we only have earthquakes!!"

Yes, we all have our faults here in California. Good luck back there!!!

I dread the potential power outage--that is the pits.

BTilke Aug 13th, 2004 12:19 PM

my parents are in Lake County, which is at high risk for tornadoes. Fingers crossed for them.

Fairhope Aug 13th, 2004 12:29 PM

Travelnut needs to drive to Tallahassee NOW. It's coming your way after it visits the mouse at Disney

Travelnut Aug 13th, 2004 04:23 PM

Mickey has left the building...Disney is closed today, and I guess tomorrow... no doubt there would be a few nutcases thinking, "hey no lines!" so they had to just lock up the place.

There are a few posters from Florida, hope you all fare well through the storm (may have already passed some of you).. check in when you can...

cigalechanta Aug 13th, 2004 04:30 PM

Travelnut keep us posted. All stay out of harm's way if the going is not good.
It looks like we may get the tail end (by the forcast tonight._
travel nut, Nothing is of interest with our friends in possible danger.

sognatrice Aug 13th, 2004 04:49 PM

Thoughts are with you all in Florida, may you stay safe... My 84 year old Aunt Josie has lived in the Destin area for more than a few decades and seen a few of these in that time-I hope all of you will come through this unharmed!

topcat Aug 13th, 2004 05:22 PM

Travelnut, I'm in Jax also. We're only supposed to get peak winds of 55-65 MPH (between 1 and 3 AM) if Charley keeps to his currently predicted track.

Travelnut Aug 14th, 2004 05:04 AM

Yes, the storm went on by Jacksonville...our skies this morning are clear and blue, right topcat?

Other parts of the state did not fare so well, however, much damage and death toll still to be counted. I hope our other Florida posters check in soon.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts...

sognatrice Aug 14th, 2004 05:14 AM

travelnut and Topcat
glad to hear that the brunt of Charley passed you by!
Hope all other Fodorites are OK there.
