Don't know what to do? Trip plans-biting off more than we can chew?
We are going to Munich in April to pick up our new BMW!! (YEA!) We are having difficulty deciding what to do. I had planned on going from Munich to Garmisch, Mittenwald, Salzburg and back to Munich in about 10 days. I was reviewing the plan with my husband who wondered why I hadn't included Switzerland. I have been surfing the web and discovered that St Gallen is only about 2 1/2 hours from Munich, and it has Lake Constance which, for some reason, is something my husband is interested in. So now I am thinking Munich, St. Gallen, Garmisch, Salzburg back to Munich. We have 10 days. Is it too much?? They don't seem too far apart (each about 2 hours from the other). Any help is appreciated!!!

With 10 days stay with 3 destinations. You will do well to include the 3 you mention, but with a family I would stay in St. Gilgen to day trip into Salzburg and to Hallstatt.

We picked up our BMW in June of 2002. Spent the day before we picked up the car in Munich, getting over jet lag, and tasting all the great beer, and dropped off the car and spent the day after in Munich, more beer/great food. Great public transportation to/from airport and in/around Munich.
We rented this place, and based ourselves right outside of Salzburg and took day trips to Salzburg, St. Gilgen, and Hallstatt (do the salt mines tour). http://www.vacationvillas.net/index....ntal/22001.cfm They've gone up since we were there, but you can get a nice 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment for a reasonable price. Save Switzerland for another trip. There's lots to see in the Garmisch and Salzburg area. ((b)) |
Budman is right on target.
You would do well to listin to his expert advice - his long and extensive beer drinking has killed off all the weak brain cells and only the very strong and smart ones remain! |
Hi. I think I'd save St. Gallen for another trip as well. But I would still consider Lindau on Bodensee (Lake Constance). It really is a beautiful area, and the villages on the German side are extraordinary (Meersburg, Lindau, Uberlingen). If you stay in Salzburg rather than St. Gilgen, then one of these Bodensee towns could be your 'lake experience'. Sounds like a great trip. J.
