Donegal Town Lodging
Any recommendations for Lodging in Donegal Town. A B&B close to town is preferable.
Thank you |
You might try this one it was recommended to me though I stayed in Ballyshannon so I dont have any specifics on it.

Thanks for the rec. It is just too far outside of town (8KM) to walk back and forth to the pubs in the winter. |
If you go to the site donegal.ie, you will get an engine that will look up all available lodging in a given town.
Most importantly, it also gives the seasonal closing dates for each property. *Many* of the B&B's and guesthouses in Donegal are closed for part of the winter, often for more than 2 months. Your dates may considerably narrow your choices. Also, if you plan to be frequently out at pubs until late, a hotel might be better than a B&B. |
We stayed at a B&B called Island View in Donegal. It was about a 10 minute walk from the center of town. We were very pleased with the B&B, but don't know if it's close enough for you.

Hi,
Stayed at Maranatha B&B in May, about a 5-10 minute walk along the river to town center. We had a large room with twin beds and a private bathroom. Breakfast was very good, tea available all day. Stayed for three nights for 25 euros per person per night. It was listed on the Donegal Town web site with a description and a couple of pictures. Also recommended by Pat Preston on her site. |
|
Thanks all!
Island View is full and the Marantha's owners are going on vacation. Any other suggestions.... |
You might want to take a look at Water's Edge or Bayview. I haven't stayed at either, so can't give a first-hand recommendation, but they're both within a 10 to 15 minute walk from the town center.

Thanks for the info. I've tried the watersedge and I believe I e-mailed bayview but haven't heard back. I guess it is the weekend of the 24th annual bridge tournament. |
Rosearl B&B is another that's fairly close to town. Sometimes I think it's worth a phone call if you're not getting an email response.
|
The 2003 Town and Country lists at least 10 B&Bs within 2.5 KM to town.
Some include Knocknagow 1km, The cove lodge 2.5 km www.thecovelodge.com,The Waters Edge(in Donegal)www.thewatersedge.ws ,Highfield 2km,Milltown house (in Donegal) www.milltownbandb.com ,Rosearl (in donegal) [email protected] , Ardenagh View 2km , Inchburgh Ban B(in Donegal), You can check out pictures and get phone numbers at www.townandcountry.ie or www.bandbireland.com Good Luck! |
Thanks panhandle. I've already tried most of them. Found out that the 24th annual Bridge Congress is going on.
Mary I have a few numbers I'm going to try. I booked two nights at the Schooner Inn right now since it is downtown and did have rooms above the pub and I've heard the food is good. |
Great! I'm a little cautious about staying above pubs because of noise, but how loud can the bridge crowd be?
|
Mary
I know what you mean, but then again we'll probably be some of the people making the noise. Thanks again! |
Do any of you know where I can get a copy of "Ireland at a Glimpse"?
It is a coupon book that someone mention would save money. Something from airport or Tourist Office? |
TobyBen:
The site for Ireland at a Glimpse is: http://take-a-glimpse.com/ireland/ That will tell you all about it but buy it from: http://www.ireland-withpatpreston.co..._a_glimpse.htm You'll save about $7.00 at Pat Preston's site. Hope thsi helps ... have fun. Bill |
