In Asolo....as you walk up the first street on your left after you enter the gate going toward the Cipriani...where you must have tea in their garden..you do NOT have to be a guest there to have this inexpensive and fabulous experience. Anyway...on your right as you walk up the street, on a corner is a little neighborhood place with a room in the front and tables on the covered patio out back...I can not tell you how wonderful the meal was...the proprietor grilled a veal chop out in the back yard over a wood fire for my husband. I told him to bring me what ever his grandmother would make for him and he brought this fabulous soup..chicken broth base..with cheese and bread and pieces of chicken. The view was special, ambience wonderful, and the food spectacular! As for tea @ the Cipriani(now run my someone else) was absolutley the best...my spouse is a painter and the whole roll of slides he took there has produced so many paintings I can't count. The service was so attentive, the view unsurpassed, and it cost about $10. or so for a whole afternoon of experiences. Jodi

It was interesting reading the replies. My wife and I are going to Venice on 10/19 for two days and then plan on driving either to Slovenia or stay in the Veneto region. We fly back to U.S. from Milan on 10/26. Any suggestions on car rental companies in Venice. The information about small villages near Trieste are placed in my things to do folder.
