domestic flights and ferries - departure question

For inter-island flights and ferries, how long before the scheduled time of departure is it recommended to get to the airport or port? Thanks.

Thanks for your quick response. 1.5-2 hours for domestic flights - is it longer for international?

I believe the standard request from international airlines is 2 hours before departure. You might be able to get away for less than 1.5 hours for a domestic flight, but if you're travelling during Peak Season you could possibly forfeit your seat if you are too late.

By inter-island flights do you mean Athens to the islands and back, or from one island to another? There are no flights between islands.

For domestic flights from Athens to the islands, probably 1˝ hrs is enough, but the Olympic check-in counters at Athens Airport are very busy first thing in the morning, so if you are taking an early flight with that airline maybe 2 hrs would be safer.

You can board a ferry anytime until they start raising the ramp - there are no check-in counters. Allow plenty of time at Pireaus, though - it's a big port, and after buying your ticket at an agency, it may take a while to find and reach your ship.

There are two webcams at the port on Paros, which will give you a good idea how the ferry system works. The best time to watch is between 9AM and 12AM Greek time, seven hours ahead of EDT in the US. Nothing much happens when there are no ferries at the dock, so you will have to look at the right time. The white building to the left of the main dock webcam is where passengers wait to board. The Paros Webcam URL is http://www.parosweb.com/paros-webcams/portcams.html.
