Dolphin Hellas Hotels
I have received a list of hotels that Dolphin Hellas represents and there is one in Athens I would like to stay at. The rate is better than on the hotel's website. Do I pay Dolphin Hellas a commission for booking this hotel for me or do I simply pay the rate as stated by Dolphin Hellas? Is emailing the agency the only way to book? Thanks.

I have booked with Dolphin Hellas for 6 Greek trips and they always have a better rate than the one posted by the hotels. Probably a volume discount. You simply pay Dolphin Hellas the rate posted on their e mail to you.
Dolphin Hellas charges a 35 euro booking fee if your total charges are less then 300 euros. If you are over that amount then they have no extra charges. I just booked Hotel Attalos and flights with them today for our trip in May and I can say for sure there are no extra charges. One thing you need to be aware of; Dolphin asks for an authorization form to be signed by you and a fax copy of your credit card. This is a very hard thing to get your head around however I can attest to the fact that I have done this several times and my card has been protected and I have never had any problem. Just wanted to warn you to expect this though. |
Thanks stanbr that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Stanbr:
We are going to Greece June 3, and am using frequest flyer miles for the flights. I have booked Attalos on my own through their web site. Where are you flying from? Could you please give me Dolphin Hellas web info? I might try to get my flights through them (if price is good enough) and keep my miles for other trips. Thank you. |
I have to admit it never ocurred to me to try and book a flight from Calgary, Alberta to Athens through Dolphin Hellas. I have no idea if you would get a good price or not.
I certainly use points whenever possible. Web site is www.dolphin-hellas.gr I always use Uli at [email protected]. She is away on vacation until Monday Jan 9. By the way, we will be at Attalos June 8. We will probably just miss you. |
Stanbr,
Have you used Dolphin-Hellas for rental cars? Due in large part to your recommendations I sent Uli an email with all our hotel requests for our upcoming trip in May. I am looking forward tp hearing back from her when she returns |
I actually did not use Dolphin Hellas for a car rental. I thouroughly searched the internet and found a better deal with Ace Rent A car. They deliver the car to you right at the Airport and you drop it off at the same location. Very efficient and cost effective. After I found them I asked Uli if she could match their price and she said no she couldn't. We had a great experience with Ace and have just rented another car from them for this May.

Thanks for the tip on Ace. We plan to rent from the airport as well since we don't want to try to drive out of central Athens from the location of our hotel. I had planned to use Avis since I have a preferred membership through work but will definitely check into Ace. Thanks again! :-)

Even if you use Avis read Ace's web site. It has rules of the road and practical advice for foreign drivers that I found very helpful.
By the way the drive from the airport to the National Road is just like driving a freeway in any big city. Not pleasant but certainly something that any experienced driver can handle. |
Thanks very much for the tip on the National Road, we had been wondering about that. DH will be doing most of the driving and he grew up in Chicago. We now live in Denver, so hopefully our freeway training will still be up to snuff. We did fine in Germany but did not get on the autobahn

Thank you for your reply. I will contact Uli at Dolphin Hellas on Monday because we will need airline/ferry tix for the rest of our trip in Greece. Yes, we will be leaving Attalos on the 6th for a 5-day stay in Crete (Chania), then on to Santorini for 3 days and Naxos for 3. I will also look into the car rental company you mentioned. Have a wonderful trip. |
