Dolomites in early June?
 

Is early June too early for a trip to the Dolomites? It's looks like lifts aren't open yet, and snow could still be an issue. Would it still be worth going to Bolzano or Trent?

Alice - Spring in the Dolomites is a wonderful time to go - I've been in June several times :)

Some lifts are open from 29/5 - e.g those in the Alpe di Siusi - which is a beautiful area for walking.

Col Raiser and Rasciesa in Val Gardena are open from early June too.

Will you have a car? June is a lovely time for touring the Dolomites - and not too busy.

It's much better to stay in the Dolomites proper rather than Bolzano or Trento (- although they are well worth a visit too ...)

Steve, thanks very much for the information, and it's a relief to hear that early June will be a good time to visit. And the link is a great help.

Where would you recommend we stay for a few nights? Bolzano and Trent were the most obvious choices, but we're completely open as to where we stay, since we WILL have a car.

Alice - I usually stay in Corvara, Ortisei or Castelrotto. Any of those would be a great choice ...

CORVARA is in a stunning setting and is the most central - so makes an ideal base for touring.

ORTISEI is a larger, typically Tyrolean resort which also makes a good base.

CASTELROTTO is a more traditional village with good access to the Alpe di Siusi but less central for touring.

Hi Steve (and anyone knowledgeable on the subject), the Dolomites part of our trip we are planning on "winging it". Do you think there will be a problem finding accomodation on arrival? We are thinking Castlerotto but now I'm considering Corvara on your suggestion as we will have 4 full days (with car) for exploration and definitetly want to be central. But we're wide open on where to stay. Thanks for any info.

Hi Jilli - May/June is still low season in the Dolomites - so you'll have no trouble winging it and finding accm on arrival.

The tourist offices in each of the villages are very efficient and will happily help you find something ...

My husband and I plan a trip to the Dolomites in September/October. I would like to have people send me any information that might help us in our planning. We hope to combine hiking and biking on this trip. We are looking for mild trails . . could do some uphill stuff. (My husband has climbed all the 14,000+ peaks in Colorado, but I am a medium hiker.)
