Dolomites in April
I am aware that April is not the most ideal time in the Dolomites to access mountain views from the top. However, can anyone supply information regarding open lifts/cable cars in late April. I have searched and many seem closed for the season prior to opening for the summer.
Thank you for your help. |
You are right. But that doesn't mean that you cannot see the mountains from places like Ritten/Renon, Seiseralm/Alpe di Siusi or from any mountain valley.
For more detailed informaton, tell us to which part of the Dolomites you pan to go. |
Based on last years timetable it looks like the lifts didn't open in Val Gardena until sometime in May

Many if not all of the lifts will be closed after the ski season ends in early to mid April. This is done mainly for maintenance reasons. I seriously wouldn't go in April if your planning to use the lifts. Leave it till Mid June when most of the lifts will be open

We had a trip to the Dolomites in May one year and although we loved it and the scenery was spectacular, most lifts were closed. We stayed the first night in Cortina which was very quiet, we ate at one of the few places open for dinner. Later we stayed in Castelrotto and the guesthouse owner told us about the only lift that was open nearby so we caught the lift up the mountain and spent hours walking, not seeing a single person. It was a wonderful day with great weather and fabulous views. That was the Alpe di Siusi.

Neckervd and Others:
The trip is booked for April. I am aware I can view the Dolomites from the mountain vally but I am searching for an open lift in late April if possible. At present, I plan to spend 3 to 5 days in the Dolomites. Have not been there in several years but previously stayed in Castelrotto, Canazei, Bolzano and Cortina. This time I will probably stay in the Ortisei area but not yet fixed that. That is the root of my question as I have searched the several lift schedules and find closings on or about 7 April. If the lifts are not open, then so be it. I most likely will not be there until later in April but have 30 days for France and the Dolomites starting 1 April. Kay: Do you recall the area of the lift? Thanks for your assistance. Huggy |

Hi Huggy,
My husband did a bit of fishing around on the web and this is a link to the cable car we caught up the mountain - http://www.seiser-alm.it/en/service/...usi-cable-car/ Once we were up there we walked for hours in a meandering uphill route. We saw some ski lifts etc but none were in operation. There was also a cafe/bar near the top of the mountain that was shut. Just to let you know, in case this lift is operating when you are there, there were toilets at the top where the cable car stops and a cafe within about 10 min walk. Hope this helps a bit. Kay |

Repeat:
Siusi - Alpe di Siusi: end May |
We were just in Ortisei at the end of the summer season and it was seriously end of season. Things were closing up for repairs - basically the whole towns of Santa Cristina and Selva were void of people, all restaurants closed etc. I don't think visiting these areas in between seasons will be as satisfying as you would hope....
