The Dolomites are an area, not a specific town. You need to think about a specific place ie Cortina, or Brenner.
Viamichelin.com can show you miles, route, and an estimated drive time. You can type destination names into Trenitalia.com for train service.(Venice to Cortina by train appears to be either 3 hrs or 4 hrs each way). |
This November, my sister & I will be doing the same thing. Going from Venice to the Dolomites (Vols/Fie).
I'm planning on a two night stay. The first day will be spent picking up the rental car at Piazzale Roma...finding our way north....etc. I figured we would like one full day to explore the area around the hotel. My husband & I have had many trips to the Dolimites...approaching it from Austria/ Milan/Venice. It's not a long trip....apx 3 hours from Venice. BUT....I wouldn't want to do it as a day trip. The scenery would whizzz by in a flash!! Have you thought about exploring the islands in the lagoon...Murano...Burano...Torcello? You won't even need a rental car to do that!! |
You could take a day trip to Verona. There is good train service from Venice to Trento and Bolzano, which are nice towns. |
Hi Mia - I'd really recommend an overnight (- or better strill, a week ;) )
With an early start you could day-trip to Cortina - but it would be a rush ... Steve |
thanks for all your suggestions they are very much appreciated.
