doing laundry in Ireland
can someone educate me on how the laundry/launderette(sp) situation is handled in Ireland? i guess what i most need to know is if we can drop our clothes at the laundry in the morning and pick them up in the late afternoon(hopefully cleaned) or is it self service like many in the states? many thanks for all the good advice and suggestions on this forum.

I don't know about all of Ireland but I know we used the self service laundry in Kenmare much as you would in the states.

calvo2,
I've always dropped mine off and picked them up in the afternoon. Even as small a village as Ballyvaughan had a laundry-cleaners. Joan |
You have your choice - most launderettes (but not all) have a "wash, dry. fold" service where you can drop your clothes and come back later to get them. Or you can do it yourself.
The wash/fold service doesn't cost much more than sitting there and watching the washer and dryer tumble, tumble, tumble for 2 hours . . . . |
I agree with janisj, I've always just dropped mine off and picked it up later, who wants to spend their vacation watching the laundry spin.
Most decent sized towns will have a laundry but then again don't expect to find one everywhere. |
We used a laundry in Kinsale. We just handed it over to the nice lady and asked her to use cold water (mixed colors & whites) and it came out fine. It was done in the time it took us to stroll around, shop and go to the pub. Your hotel should be able to direct you.

You can't always expect to pick it up that afternoon. The laundrette in Kenmare took about a full day. Keep that in mind. Depends on how busy they are.
